NECA's San Diego Comic Con Exclusive 8-Bit Jason Vorhees figure

So it was excellent news when NECA announced that they were to be showcasing an exclusive figure at SDCC of Jason Vorhees as he appeared in the original pain-in-the-ass original Nintendo game in his striking purple and blue outfit. I had to have this figure but getting it would be no easy task. Having been tagged by a close friend and the only person I knew that ever actually read anything I posted during my tenure at the ZomBcon saying she was at San Diego I put to the mission of tracking one down, only to find out they were already sold out. So that avenue closed I inquired to the website themselves and found they would have more the next morning. I was up early on a Sunday morning a half hour earlier than was instructed just waiting for my chance.Just upon chance I refreshed the page to find them live. I pounced and claimed mine and good thing as within minutes they were gone again. It would soon be mine!

Even the back of the box resembles the classic NES cartridge case! They went all out on their attention to detail front and back, inside and out. See below!

 

The inner display box shows the game over screen I saw time and time again which is cool while the actual box is a direct copy of the old Nintendo box artwork.

It's a Long Hard Road Out of Hell

Well 2013 is off to a much better start than the 2nd half of 2012 was. First off it's 2013, 13 being my lucky number and so far it ain't bad. I've spoken at length about my trials and tribulations as of late, thankfully the worm turned in my favor finally and I've been able to start seeing my kiddo again. Only thing is I'm running on a burnout schedule between work, school, homework, the kiddo and doing anything to make ends meet financially... oh yeah and attempting to have something resembling an actual life.
That said I managed to finally watch a few good movies recently when I can catch a break from all the action lately. Seven Psychopaths, Django Unchained and Cabin In The Woods were recently on  the bill in my living room and they all were fantastic movies. I don't have the time to go into detailed reviews of them currently but all I can say is check them out!
Seven Psychopaths is a great flick from the same directors of In Bruges, so if you're a fan of witty gritty black comedies I highly recommend it.
Django Unchained is Tarantino finally doing an actual old Western revenge flick in his trademark style reminiscent of a Leone style spaghetti Western. Great movie but clocking in at just under 3 hours it is quite the lengthy one.
Cabin in the Woods is not your typical let's-kill-all-the-stupid-college-kids type of movie, it's far more dark and sinister than it makes off to be in the first half hour. It's cliched for the sake of being cliched and for good reasons. Lots of nods and homages to characters, events and creatures that make the horror genre so great in the first place.
So that's all for now folks, I promise I'll find time to go into greater detail on these flicks and I still have intentions on getting some other reviews posted that have been swimming in the depths of my brain for awhile. Until then... ta ta

2012 - Made To Suffer

So I said about a month back I would offer an explanation as to my extended hiatus, well here it is in semi-story form.
Earlier this year I started going back to school, at the same time I finally found gainful employment for the first time since my daughter was born (which was May in 2010). As a result this put a serious strain on my at-the-time current relationship, in short things went south. In fact they went about as horribly as they possibly could and I've been crawling my way back from Hell since. I know people fall in and out of love a lot, I'm not exception, but this one was REAL bad... accusations and allegations were a'flying and so were angry spiteful words from both sides... but that's all they ever were, just words. In the end it left me without my daughter and no way to see her or contact her until the end of September when I was granted the ability to see her. Unfortunately that didn't happen until last Friday for the first time in 4 months which was bittersweet. So here's hoping that this week I get another chance to visit with her.
It's funny though that even in the midst of disaster there can be pieces of calm to be found, that even on a battlefield love can bloom as Solid Snake once said. When I reentered the workforce I made friends with a great crew of people at my new job. One of them just so happened to be a woman.
One day out of the blue she asks me what I thought was the million dollar question, "Do you like zombies? Do you watch The Walking Dead?" My jaw dropped, I was in love. Turns out we shared quite a bit in common in addition to an affinity for zombies and horror. So amidst a veritable shitstorm, I found something worthwhile and meaningful in another person, and one who can stand to be around me and actually enjoys some of the same things I do. With that in mind, I've been showing her all the horror movies she can stand and we finished up the mid-season finale of Walking Dead on Sunday. Her own creative talents have inspired me to get this heap up and running again. So with that said, here I sit writing all this out.
It's also worth noting here that I just noticed yesterday that all my previous journalism work I did for an ill-fated zombie convention is no longer online, so that just means I need to repost it all here (which I had already intended on but now have motivation for having kept all the original files on my computer).
I intend on having her offer up some insight into the reviews I post here not only as my girlfriend and partner in crime but as a budding female horror aficionado as well. 2012 may not have turned to be as Apocalyptic as some groups previously thought (but who knows, we'll find in 17 days I guess) but it was cataclysmic enough for me, having found her was and has been the only thing keeping me off the brink of my own self destruction at the insanity of it all; so here's to ending the year on a positive enough note and to a brighter future in 2013.
That said, who's looking forward to the return of Walking Dead in February? I know I sure am! This season didn't dick us around nearly as badly as Season Two did I felt, I'm sure the second half will be just as good or better I'm hoping. Cheers all, I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Halloween, a gluttonous Thanksgiving among family and friends and here's wishing you all a holly jolly Merry-fucking Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Heavy deconstruction

Hi all, I know I haven't updated nearly at all lately... I do have big plans here, I plan on reposting my work I've done for the Seattle ZomBcon this past year and I've got tons of material to review, tons of new authors to discuss, lots more zombie related mayhem and I plan on expanding this blog outside my usual postings on the living dead to classic horror and the monster movies that I love oh so much. There will be much retro goodness appearing here too, as is I find myself late to stumble onto things until well after they're done being cool or hold most things nostalgic near and dear to my heart... expect some classic video game reviews, I'll dig out some classic novels and comic books and offer up my opinion on them.
Finding adequate employment in this economy as well as looking after my own demon spawn takes up much of my time but I will try and focus my creative efforts to this project. So if you've stuck with me til now, I appreciate it; just hang tough because from here it only gets better!
